This position involves designing and implementing collaborative engagements and supporting research for two innovative Department of Energy funded projects – HyperFACETS and the National Alliance for Water Innovation (NAWI). HyperFACETS is a multi-institutional project that aims at improving Earth systems modelling for management-relevant outcomes. NAWI’s Regional Water Systems program seeks to inform the regional potential for technology innovation to support reliable, affordable, and energy-efficient water. Engagement among regional water and energy management professionals, scientists, technology experts, and/or systems analysts is critical to the success of both projects.
In this exciting role, you will work with the broader engagement team of these projects to design and execute the various engagement-related tasks such as developing the engagement plan & approach, recruiting partners or practitioners, identifying information needs of partners through appropriate types of engagements, and ensuring that feedback from practitioners and partners is being integrated into the project’s research efforts. In addition, the Engagement Manager will also support the qualitative and/or quantitative analysis or synthesis of the engagements to enable other project tasks, or for supporting the development of research papers. Some project management and coordination tasks will also be involved.
What You Will Do:
This position has three primary duties: (1) Design, manage and implement collaborative engagements (2) Analyze and synthesize engagements, (3) Undertake engagement related project management and coordination tasks.
For designing, managing and implementing collaborative engagements, the specific duties may include:
- Developing an engagement plan
- Securing Human Subjects research approval for the engagements
- Identifying and recruiting engagement partners
- Designing and undertaking engagements such as – surveys, interviews, focus groups, workshops, etc.
- Building relationships with partners and project team members.
- Ensuring that collaborative engagements are on track and are adequately informing the projects’ further tasks or research.
For analyzing and synthesizing engagements, specific duties may include:
- Reviewing and summarizing engagement notes and transcripts to inform key technical tasks
- Transcribing engagements
- Developing workshop or engagement reports
- Supporting systematic qualitative or quantitative analysis of engagements
For the project management and coordination, specific duties may include:
- Creating and managing timelines for engagement
- Ensuring that feedback from engagements is being appropriately incorporated into the project’s various tasks
- Attend project meetings
- Supporting project reports and other deliverables as needed
- Other communication, coordination and relationship management tasks as needed
To undertake the above activities, Human Subjects Research Training and any other requisite training as prescribed by the lab’s Human Subjects Committee, must be completed.
Additional Responsibilities as needed:
- Support in other tasks related to research and manuscript development
- Support with literature or content reviews as needed by the various project tasks
What is Required:
- 3-6 years of experience in designing and executing engagement efforts, preferably in water, energy, technology, or Earth sciences -related topics, and in working with scientists and resources managers (i.e. water, energy or land managers).
- Ability to lead, manage, and coordinate large collaborative engagements, and work independently to define work objectives, priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of designing engagement plans, and implementing workshops, focus group discussions, interviews, surveys, and other such activities.
- Experience in qualitative data analysis methods
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, co-ordination and organizational skills
- Motivation and passion to work in large-multi agency collaborative science projects
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, public policy, social sciences or a related field.
- Familiarity with Earth sciences data and modeling, and/or water and energy systems planning/technologies
- Experience with project management
