Assistant Professor – Hydrologic Systems Engineering – Fall 2027

The Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in hydrologic systems engineering. We seek a candidate whose research advances fundamental understanding of hydrologic processes and addresses complex water challenges through a systems perspective. We are particularly interested in research that examines interactions, feedbacks, and connectivity among hydrologic processes across spatial and temporal scales.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, riverine, estuarine, and coastal systems; surface and subsurface hydrology; transport processes and sediment dynamics; coupled human-water systems; hydrologic prediction and modeling across scales, and responses to hydroclimatic extremes. Candidates whose research integrates novel experimental and observational approaches, field studies, Earth observations and remote sensing, data assimilation, or physics-based, data-driven, or hybrid modeling and computational methods are encouraged to apply.

We are committed to supporting the success of all members of our community: students, staff and faculty. A successful candidate can expect to benefit from and contribute to those efforts.

Assistant Professor – Engineering for the Extreme – Fall 2027

The Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Engineering for the Extreme.

We are interested in candidates whose research addresses the multitude of challenges in engineering for the extreme, at both the system and material levels, including: (a) design for extreme terrestrial (subsea, underground, polar, desert) or extraterrestrial (lunar, Martian, orbital) settings; (b) design strategies to enhance resilience to extreme natural (e.g., atmospheric) or anthropogenic events (e.g., wildfires); and/or (c) design for extreme or uncommon stressors (e.g., radiation, intense thermal cycling, extreme pressures, micrometeorite impacts).

Candidates leveraging AI and physics-informed computational modeling in novel ways for engineering for the extreme are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have access to various experimental and high-performance computing facilities.

We are committed to supporting the success of all members of our community: students, staff, and faculty.  A successful candidate can expect to benefit from and contribute to those efforts.

Assistant Professor – Advanced Computational Geotechnics – Fall 2027

The Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in geotechnical engineering with expertise in advanced computational geotechnics. The candidate’s research should address innovative computational methods for analyzing, modeling and predicting the behavior of geotechnical systems across multiple spatial and temporal scales. Specific research areas of interest may include: advanced computational methods, constitutive and multi-physics modeling, digital twins and predictive simulation, data-enabled computational geomechanics, subsurface data interpretation and modeling and computational modeling of resilient infrastructure systems.

We are committed to supporting the success of all members of our community: students, staff, and faculty.  A successful candidate can expect to benefit from and contribute to those efforts.
